Topic The Big Hole in Confined Space Training – Gas Monitor Training!
There’s a critical gap in OSHA’s Confined Space Entry (CSE) training requirements—and it’s putting workers at risk.
OSHA’s 1910.146 CSE standard outlines the dangers of confined spaces and the duties of entry teams, but section 1910.146(h)(2) requires attendants to know the hazards they may face, including those identified through monitoring. Unfortunately, most CSE training does not teach workers how to use or interpret gas monitors—the very tools designed to protect their lives.
This session explores the disconnect between OSHA curriculum, safety managers, gas monitor manufacturers, distributors, and the workers themselves. It reveals how traditional training can give a false sense of security, leaving workers underprepared to safely assess and respond to gas hazards in the field.
Jason Call will discuss what dangers are left unchecked, and most importantly—what we can all do about it. This session will help safety professionals, supervisors, and frontline workers bridge the training gap with actionable solutions for safer confined space operations.
